What I Wore: Gingham Girl

20th August, 2019

We’re really spoilt for choice as far as suiting goes these days and I’m loving all the different silhouette variations I’ve been been seeing in my ongoing quest for the perfect suit. Whilst you can get everything from a relaxed suit to one that’s perfect for a dressy occasion, I tend to gravitate towards the styles that have a little personality, whether it’s a great print or an interesting cut. This suit by Bec and Bridge ticks both boxes. The checked pattern gives it a certain energy and vibrancy, whilst the flared, bell bottom pants give it a fun, 70s feel. I could easily see myself wearing this suit to an event or out to lunch with my friends or even a meeting, so it’s definitely a versatile addition to my wardrobe. Underneath I popped on a simple white ribbed top, complementing the hints of white on the suit.

Working with such a busy pattern, I wanted to let the suit take centre stage so opted for accessories that were a little more pared back whilst also staying within the colour palette of the check print to give my outfit some cohesion. I went for a black quilted Dior bag with chain strap and minimalist cat eye sunglasses by Poppy Lissiman. I always like to wear heels whenever I’m wearing a suit so I paired this particular look with Giuseppe Zanotti heels with the most amazing crystal covered heel—elegant but glam all at the same time.

6 ways with a slip dress

10th August, 2019

cover

The slip dress is quintessential 90s. The supers – Kate Moss, Christy Turlington and Naomi Campbell were all big fans; Jennifer Aniston and Courtney Cox rocked them in Friends and who could forget Alicia Silverstone’s iconic Calvin Klein slip dress in Clueless. As with other 90s trends such as chokers and overalls, the slip dress has made a triumphant return to be a must-have piece in every wardrobe. If you’re going to jump on board this trend don’t be afraid to mix it up just like these ladies…

plain-white-with-a-cardi2

This has taken key 90s pieces and given it a modern spin. Gary Pepper Girl’s Nicole Warne has paired it with a modern choker, minimalist mules and a printed cardi to give her slip dress a more contemporary feel. The block colour on the dress also gives it a modern feel.

espadrilles

A plain white slip dress is a fresh look for spring/summer. Espadrilles are also going to be a key addition to your wardrobe this season so when paired together this is a winning look. Chanel Boy bag optional!

coloured

This slip dress is a nod to the season’s military trend, in particular this shade of khaki green. The slip dress is quite minimalist so keep this look clean with delicate jewellery and a streamline, tan bag.

classic black

You can’t deny the impact of all-black everything. The black slip dress is the most classic of 90s pieces, but to give it an updated spin team it with a wide brimmed hat and a pair of Birkenstocks.

denim-2

The denim jacket is one of those pieces that is surprisingly versatile. Team it with a navy slip dress for the ultimate in casual cool.

sneakers

The white sneaker trend isn’t going anywhere anytime soon why not pair it with a slip dress for the ultimate in utilitarian looks – comfy yet cool. Just remember that if you have any detail on your dress such as the lace on this slip dress, that you should keep the rest of your outfit quite simple.

What I Wore: Laced Up

6th August, 2019

Whilst easy, breezy lightweight dresses in summer are great I do love a long sleeved dress during winter. There’s something quite polished and chic about the style plus they work beautifully during trans-seasonal weather when you’re not quite sure whether it’s going to be hot or cold. Whilst I love the silhouette of this Zimmermann dress, what really sealed the deal for me was the lace up detailing and ruching. Both give it a beautiful textured effect and elevate it into something special. Also who else loves rocking florals during winter? I think it’s such an unexpected print to wear at this time of year, plus the colour palette is perfect for the season.

With a dress such as this it’s nice to keep the rest of the look quite pared back so as not to overwhelm. I opted for my Balenciaga sock boots as they allowed me to continue the slimline silhouette of the dress to the rest of my outfit. I capped off my ensemble with a pair of frameless Le Specs sunglasses with a slight cat eye (such a great style at an affordable price) and my heart shaped Dior tribal earrings. Accessories that are understated yet with plenty of personality.

What I Wore: Casual Luxe

30th July, 2019

I’m all for a high-low mix when it comes to how I dress and often work elegant accessories with more casual pieces. This ensures comfort without compromising on style. And what’s more comfortable or stylish than a classic white tee and jeans? I often wear this combination and always add interesting outerwear along with fun accoutrements to help give it a point of difference. For this particular look I decided to add the ultimate in luxury pieces—a fur coat (faux all the way, of course). I wore this coat to Fashion Week with a dress but it goes to show that it can also be dressed down without compromising its wow factor. I’ve found that throwing on knockout outerwear always elevates a less dressy look.

As always accessories are crucial for finishing off an ensemble and in this instance it was all about a striking bag and shoes. The classic Louis Vuitton Speedy bag looks fresh and modern due to the oversized monogram, and I love that I can use it as both a crossbody and top handle bag. My ankle boots are also by Louis Vuitton, but with a smaller, subtle LV pattern. And as a final finishing touch, delicate cat eye sunglasses by Vogue Eyewear and earrings by The Slow Mode.

My week on Instagram

28th July, 2019

It was all about winter looks this week on Instagram. One of my go-to staples during the cooler months is a gorgeous knit and this week was no exception. The Zimmermann jumper below has been on high rotation and adds a feminine element to a casual look with it soft pink hue and sweet oversized bows. But I’m also all about a beautiful trench, and this checked coat by Lover is one way to add a chic touch to any outfit. It’s the perfect topper—adding a statement feature to an ensemble whilst being versatile enough to go from off duty to work and event without missing a beat.

What I Wore: Soft and Sweet

23rd July, 2019

One of my favourite things about winter is the fact I get to cosy up in gorgeous knits such as this sweet jumper by Zimmermann. I’m a firm believer that knitwear doesn’t have to be boring, in fact it can often be the star of an outfit if the finishing touches are just right. The oversized bows on this sweater is ultimately what makes it and is the ideal finishing touch. I also find a batwing sleeve particularly flattering when it comes to knits as it has the slightly billowy feel that I like when it comes to jumpers but the tapered cuffs give it a refined shape.

You’ll often find me in jeans so I am quite particular when it comes to the wash and fit. This pair by Levi’s ticks all the boxes for me. It’s always nice to go back to such a classic denim brand as they really know how to create a great, flattering pair. Paired with a cute jumper, it’s a combination that’s a failsafe during winter.

I decided to dress this outfit up a little with black Aquazzura pumps. I like the fact that the subtle bow on the straps ties in to the bows on my jumper, offering a little extra cohesion. As a final finishing touch, I opted for my favourite black Dior bag worn as a clutch. Overall it’s a casual look that’s elegant and polished, yet easily adaptable with a change of accessories.

Wardrobe Envy: Blair Eadie

22nd July, 2019

There are some whose wardrobes are such a visual smorgasbord of amazing looks that you can’t help but want everything they wear. And one of them would have to be blogger Blair Eadie, the woman behind fashion blog Atlantic-Pacific. If you’re a fan of monochrome everything then look away now because if there’s one thing that this fashionista is not, it’s being averse to colour. In fact, her entire aesthetic is a riot of colour in a polished, edited way.

From colour blocking to rich vibrant tones and incorporating a veritable rainbow in everything she wears, this is colour done right. Working with such a bold palette may seem intimidating at first, but not if you learn how to embrace it in a way that’s elegant and modern—and that’s exactly what Blair Eadie does.

One of the best ways to do a rainbow palette is to colour block. Working bold tones together to create an effect that purposely clashes hues is effective and makes for a powerful sartorial statement. Another way is to pick a colour to highlight in your look and incorporate it within your outfit and further complement it with your accessories. And to ensure cohesion, if you’re wearing a particularly colourful piece, pick a hue from that item and carry it throughout for a continuing colour scheme.

Also your first instinct might be to dial it down with your accessories when working with such vibrant colours but do as Blair Eadie does and go even bolder with your accoutrements. The effect is stunning. Think chandelier earrings, bright headbands and sunglasses that pop. The entire effect is a look that screams playful and fun, yet is polished and elegant through and through. And what’s not to love about that?

What I Wore: Island Life

2nd July, 2019

I’ve always been a fan of dresses for ease of dressing — you simply pop them on, add a pair of shoes and you’re done so it’s been so good to see that the dresses around at the moment have all featured such gorgeous prints and classic cuts. I’m particularly loving the midi length styles with simple, feminine silhouettes such as the dress below by Rebecca Vallance. I brought the dress with me on my trip to Daydream Island and found it to be such a good piece for a beachy getaway because it was able to take me from hanging with Sophia by the pool to lunch and even to dinner if I really wanted, with just a few accessory tweaks. And it was so comfy too!

I paired it with a pair of simple white Gucci sandals to keep the vibe of my outfit fresh and relaxed. And I simply can’t get enough of wicker handbags at the moment so opted for a top handle bag by Sparrows Weave. It helped add to the holiday vibe of my ensemble. And as the rest of my look was so simple it was crying out for a strong piece to elevate it, so I added a pair of drop earrings as the ideal finishing touch.

If you’re sick of jeans for weekend wear this is one to bookmark for future reference. A great skirt, a tee and flats makes for a comfy but chic off duty look.

Animal print is always a great shortcut for turning an outfit from simple to edgy. Snakeskin is particularly trending but you can always fall back on good ol’ fashioned leopard print if you feel like taking a walk on the wild side.

Anything in a camel shade works beautifully in winter. This blazer looks sophisticated and modern, but if it’s not your thing you could definitely achieve the same effect with a beautiful coat in the same shade.

A statement blazer is an easy shortcut to elevating an outfit, and works a treat with denim. Also don’t forget that a jumpsuit paired with a jacket is a great alternative to a top and pants combination during winter.

If you haven’t yet added a satin printed skirt into your fashion repertoire you’re seriously missing out. Pair it with a simple tee and it makes for a polished, feminine look that’s majorly on trend.

Earrings are still very much one of the easiest ways you can take an existing look in a new direction. This particular outfit gets a lift with a pair of drop circle beauties.

I’ve always been a huge fan of a pleated skirt and paired with an oversized blazer, it’s polished and oh-so modern.

Wardrobe Envy: Lauren Santo Domingo

24th June, 2019

As a former Vogue editor, now entrepreneur and co-founder and Chief Brand Officer of the insanely chic online retailer Moda Operandi, Lauren Santo Domingo pretty much oozes style out of every pore. Her perfectly coiffed looks are always classic, chic and sharp and never fail to tick all the fashion boxes.

With a wardrobe largely featuring high end designers, her style can at first glance appear a little intimidating. However when broken down you can easily take elements of her look and adapt it into your own.

Firstly look for classic textures and silhouettes, with Lauren favouring a beautiful Chanel tweed, modern suiting and on point outerwear as part of her core look. Secondly don’t forget about your accessories. Play with statement jewellery including earrings and necklaces, carry bags with interesting shapes or features and add a wow element to every ensemble whether it’s knockout heels or a bold lip. And when it comes to every piece you own, take a leaf from the statuesque Lauren’s look and always go for quality—because a collection of well made, sophisticated pieces is definitely the lynchpin of an envy inducing wardrobe.
