Fashion, What I Wore

What I Wore: 2022 Derby Day

31st October, 2022

After several years away, it was nice to be back at the Melbourne Cup Carnival. It’s a big week of events and the first big race day is of course, Derby Day. As a Lexus ambassador, I was lucky enough to be invited to hang out at the luxe, three-level Landmark by Lexus pavilion at the Birdcage so I knew I had tp step it up with my outfit! With a black and white dress code, I’ve always loved embracing this particular day dedicated to all things monochrome. I’ve done various iterations of the dress code over the years from all white, to all black and a combination of both. This year, I tapped into two of spring racing’s (and let’s face it spring in general’s) biggest trends with this mini Rebecca Vallance dress and Jimmy Choo platforms. I liked the balance achieved with this dress, with the slightly more conservative lace Victorian-inspired top with ruffles, worked back with a mini hemline. There was an additional layer of edginess with the crop top underneath but overall it ticked all the boxes when it comes to my approach to choosing one focal point to my look, which in this case was showing a little more leg. I could also definitely see this dress working for party season.

When it came to accessorising I went for a single colour opting for an all black look. As daunting as they may look at times, I actually find platforms comfier than regular heels, so these Jimmy Choo platforms were great for a long day on my feet. They also added on an trend feature to this ensemble, and the Jimmy Choo pouch added a relaxed yet polished feel. Headwear is of course crucial for any outfit at the races, and I went for elegant simplicity with a Viktoria Novak bejewelled headband. It added a touch of glitz but in a very understated way.
