What I Wore: The Statement Sleeve

8th June, 2017

A white shirt is always a style staple in my wardrobe but lately I’ve been stepping away from the classic slimline button down by embracing the statement sleeve. I have found that adopting a different silhouette is a great way to instantly rejuvenate a traditional look and take it in a totally new direction. The flared sleeve on this Tome shirt give this ensemble a more relaxed feel and when paired with light denim and slides, it’s an off-duty look that is polished yet effortless. A simple look needs a punchy accessory and my favourite Gucci Dionysus handbag perfectly fits the bill.

12 Insta-outfit ideas to steal

1st June, 2017

A brand new month calls for some fresh new outfit inspo! If your wardrobe is leaving you feeling less than inspired let some of the most sartorially blessed ladies of Instagram spark an ensemble idea or two. You’ll be well on your way to styling up a storm.

Heading out for drinks but want to wear something a little different? Try a pair of wide leg jeans worked back with a tee and leather jacket. Pair with killer heels and you’re set.

Give a classic outfit combination such as denim and a button down shirt a slightly more modern spin by pairing with distressed jeans. Also, Franklin is a case study on how to turn a scarf into a statement accessory.

A white longline blazer is the versatile piece that your wardrobe needs. Whether you choose to wear it with jeans or a simple dress it just works.

A dressy combination of a lightweight knit and cropped trousers is given a more casual treatment by pairing it with black Vans sneakers. It’s a perfect off-duty look that can easily be dressed up by switching into a pair of heels.

Adopt a classic pinstripe shirt but give it a more on trend spin by opting for an interesting neckline. When paired with neutral flats and jeans it allows the shirt to act as a feature point.

Dare to pair different shades of leather in the one look. To keep it looking cohesive just ensure the rest of the outfit uses the same shades as one leather item and let the other one act as a pop of colour.

The off-the-shoulder top is ubiquitous so for something different but still in a similar family to this décolletage-baring look why not opt for a one shoulder top instead? It seems fresh and interesting and works beautifully with a pair of cropped pants and strappy stilettos.

Allow your pants to take centre stage. Case in point: a pair of cropped palazzo pants in a bold colour works well with a plain black top and adorable pointed flats and makes a striking statement.

Experiment with a high-low mix and wear a super dressy piece and pair with an off-duty staple such as a leather jacket. A satin maxi dress looks less red carpet and more dinner-appropriate when a jacket is thrown ever so nonchalantly over it. (Or you could just rock a polka dot monochrome dress a la Minnie!)

Give your black blazer the day off and try it in a tweed incarnation instead. You’ll still look polished but also stand out in a crowd.

An oversized knit is a must during cooler weather but inject a bit of energy into a neutral sweater by teaming it with an animal print.

Striped cropped pants looks edgy yet polished when paired with a white blouse and sandals in a vibrant shade. A simple boho inspired bag gives this look an effortless feel.

What I Wore: Black Magic

29th May, 2017

An all-black ensemble is a wardrobe staple for me during winter as it’s guaranteed to always look polished and is in keeping with the moody hues of the season. A no-brainer, right? However due to this reason you can almost guarantee to find yourself amongst a sea of black outfits. The key is making your outfit stand apart. It’s all about finding the centrepiece to your overall look, something that you can build the rest of your outfit around. To do this I find it pays to find a garment with an eye-catching feature that makes it a statement piece that will help you to stand out in the crowd. I spotted this Roksanda Truffaut Bell-Sleeve Top from Farfetch and I knew immediately that it fit the bill. It’s sleek but the sleeves simultaneously give it an avant-garde feel and adds a bit of drama to my outfit.

A statement top with bold details needs to be worked back with a piece with clean lines so as not to overwhelm so I opted to pair it with my favourite LXÉ leather pants. I wanted to keep my entire look all the same colour while adding the right accoutrements to keep it from looking too heavy and dark. For this reason I added accessories with interesting finishing touches in order to add some punch to my get-up. My Saint Laurent Monogram M3 sunglasses are the ultimate in statement eyewear with their gold glitter detail and is the ideal complementary piece to a head-to-toe black look by providing a small pop of colour. I’ve always been a big fan of all things monochrome so my Stella McCartney embroidered star clutch is the ideal bag to carry all my essentials for the day. In keeping with the minimalist nature of my outfit I opted for mini lightning bolt Astley Clarke stud earrings which add a playful touch to my attire while remaining understated. Heels are a must with the dressy nature of this ensemble so my Alaïa studded heels were the perfect way to finish off the look .

Wearing black is my winter go-to (as I’m sure it is for a lot of people) but there’s no need for it to be boring—it’s all in the attention to detail and the right finishing touches.

Steal all my looks from Fashion Week

22nd May, 2017

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia has come to an end for another year and without a doubt it’s always a favourite time of year for me partly because of the fun I have styling my looks for the entire week. Each day I tried to go for an outfit that was a completely different vibe from the day before and had a great time experimenting with so many different hues, textures and styles all while tapping into all the major trends I’m loving. I’ve fielded a few questions about some of the pieces I was wearing so to help make it easier I’ve pulled together a guyide to help you get the look for yourself—everything is just a click away.

What I Wore: Australian Fashion Week 2017 Day Five

18th May, 2017

After yesterday’s vibrant look I wanted to dial it right back today and opted for a sleek monochrome ensemble for my last day at Fashion Week. I love a dress in crisp white—it’s just so effortless and classic. This Stella McCartney midi dress seemed perfect for today’s show at Bondi Beach, as it has a light and airy vibe, yet its structured silhouette makes it ideal for an industry event. I wanted to keep my accessories simple so I opted for my Stella McCartney clutch with star motif and the season’s must-have shoe style, the slimline sock boot. Sometimes keeping it simple just works.

What I Wore: Australian Fashion Week 2017 Day Four

17th May, 2017

Everything about this ensemble by Fendi is bold and vibrant which is perfect for another busy day at Fashion Week. As soon as I saw the balloon sleeves of this blouse I knew I wanted to continue the voluminous silhouette by pairing it with culottes. The waved pattern on the pants and the waved detailing on the blouse help give the outfit continuity along with the hints of blue in both. When it comes to volume it was important to have the nipped in waist of the pants in order to avoid the outfit from overwhelming my frame and the streamlined heels to act as a counterpoint to the billowy nature of the rest of my look. I also decided upon a forest green Camilla and Marc coat to complement the blue tones in my pants and blouse and kept accessories to a minimum-just a pair of Celine sunglasses and a simple Jerome Dreyfuss clutch.

What I Wore: Australian Fashion Week Day Three

16th May, 2017

Fashion Week is the perfect opportunity to trial new trends so there was no better time to embrace a little velvet and a little pink in a nod to two of the big trends of the season. And when both trends meld into one gorgeous velvet Bec & Bridge dress in a beautiful shade of dusty pink? Well, it was a done deal. I wanted to keep the look quite tonal and also ultra feminine so I kept my accessories all pink with a pair of ombre Rebecca de Ravenel corded-silk drop earrings, a Miu Miu clutch and my latest shoe love—my Marco de Vincenzo braided heels. The weather can get quite cool whilst I’m out and about so I came prepared with a snowy white Max Mara coat and a fun pair of Lucy Folk sunglasses as the final finishing touch. I don’t often wear pink but after today, I may have to reconsider embracing my girly side more often.

What I Wore: Australian Fashion Week 2017 Day Two

15th May, 2017

I can’t resist a beautiful print so it’s no surprise that I fell in love with this beautiful Camilla and Marc top and skirt the moment I saw it. The pale mint hue of both pieces is so fresh and is a classic, feminine look that can I can see working for everything from a work event to a special dinner. When it comes to skirts I’m a big fan of the midi length as it always looks polished. Choosing my accessories today I was in the mood for something bold so I opted for my gold Gucci heels (the metallic shade is also a match made in heaven with green) and I couldn’t resist a touch more Gucci and decided to wear my chain strap Dionysus bag from the label. Sunglasses are a must when running from show to show so I made sure to bring my new Saint Laurent frames.

What I Wore: Australian Fashion Week 2017 Day One

14th May, 2017

The first show of Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia was Dion Lee, and as a huge fan of his designs I wanted to show my support so opted for a sweater and pleated skirt from his label. I went for a full navy look but worked in different textures in order to break the outfit up and avoid the colour looking too overwhelming. Also the weather was quite cool so it was great to be in a knit to keep warm as the show took place outdoors on the Opera House forecourt. I wanted to wear statement jewellery to add some punch to my outfit so opted for rose gold earrings and a smattering of cocktail rings. My Bulgari bag was also in navy so was in keeping with the colour palette of the day, whilst the Mimco bag/wallet added a touch of colour. And of course one of my favourite Alaïa heels had to cap off the look and my round frame Miu Miu sunglasses added a touch of fun to my ensemble. Bring on the rest of the week!

12 Insta-outfit ideals to steal

1st May, 2017

If you’re experiencing stylist’s block aka having no idea what to wear then it’s high time for some fashion inspiration. As always the stylish ladies of Instagram are able to offer up more than enough great outfits to help you get dressed for the rest of the month, totally drama-free.

This look demonstrates perfectly how you can mix classic and contemporary and create a look that’s totally on point. Ballet flats and cropped distressed jeans are already a match made in sartorial heaven but when there’s a gorgeous Chanel boucle jacket involved, then you’ve got perfection on your hands.

Now this is how to do lounge wear the chic way. Fashion blogger Julie Sarinana has opted for tapered cropped tracksuit pants (infinitely more flattering then the baggy variety) and paired it with a classic black and white striped long sleeved t-shirt and sneakers for the ultimate in leisure wear.

A post shared by Alexa (@alexachung) on

An oversized cocoon style coat will not only be a great winter warmer it looks polished when thrown on over everything from jeans to leather pants.

A gorgeous trench is a wardrobe staple. I guarantee that not only will you get plenty of wear out of it, it also works well with the current trend of straight leg denim – an effortless look that is of the moment.

Now is the time to start building your knit collection. A neutral knit when paired with a black turtleneck and round frame sunglasses channel a 60s vibe with a modern touch.

Stretchy jeans are making way for more rigid denim styles with the straight leg, high rise being the most popular. When paired with a simple white tee and a cosy cardigan, you’ve got yourself a look that’s perfect for an afternoon spent relaxing.

Whatever Olivia Palermo wears is always fashion gold, especially when it’s monochromatic perfection such as this. A pair of leather pants is the ideal pairing with ankle boots while a long line vest and bell sleeves makes for sophisticated layering.

A moto style leather jacket is a key wardrobe item throughout the year for me as it’s so versatile. Lara Worthington has thrown her jacket on over a plain tee and tweed pants for a look that perfectly straddles the old and the new.

A post shared by Emily Weiss (@emilywweiss) on

Glossier founder Emily Weiss’ look shows how oh-so right a pairing white and grey make. The cropped flared jeans are one of the key denim styles of the season while the Gucci slides with fur trim are the ideal finishing touch. The coat with waterfall drape is a wardrobe addition that is guaranteed to be on high rotation.

A post shared by Miranda (@mirandakerr) on

Miranda Kerr is living proof in the style appeal of a pair of bold hued pants. Red is an adventurous colour choice but when paired with a cami and sweet polka dot cardi it looks decidedly more subdued and wearable.

A post shared by Miroslava Duma (@miraduma) on

Be adventurous in your fashion pairings a la Miroslava Duma who has teamed sporty separates with a classic long length, double breasted wool coat and black boots for a look that’s comfortable with an added edge.

A sleeveless suit style dress looks polished and sophisticated and can be dressed up or down according to your chosen footwear. Heeled ankle boots would take you to a meeting just fine while a pair of sneakers could take you to lunch with the girls. Also, the backpack has grown up a lot over the years to make it a great alternative to a handbag.
